Business Development Manager
The Business Development Manager identifies and helps to develop strategic relationships with potential clients and partners. This person oversees business development initiatives to guide them from the opportunity phase through to the contract phase. Specific tasks include developing proposal and pitch materials, soliciting leads, fostering relationships with communities which may provide opportunities, focusing efforts on pitching and landing projects deployed on BigTree CMS (Fastspot's proprietary content management system), targeting higher-ed, museums, cultural organizations, associations and non-profits, developing internal marketing materials, and maintaining communications with prospective clients. This role will also require the ability to pitch and create proposals and estimates for a combination of creative and technical offerings. An ability to multi-task and prioritize is critical to the success of this role, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills. This person will work under general supervision from the principals of the agency, and may lead and direct the work of others.
The role is fast-paced, demanding, and involves direct interaction with clients as well as working personally with the most senior executives at the agency. It’s an amazing opportunity to learn and grow, but also requires thick-skin, attention to detail, great writing skills, and the ability to self-manage.
You will:
- Respond to inbound calls and emails from prospective clients.
- Make outgoing inquiries to targeted client categories to generate leads.
- Qualify leads and manage business pipeline status reporting.
- Run pitch process, including assessing opportunities, collaborating with stakeholders on pitch deliverables, interfacing with prospective clients, and creating written RFP responses.
- Maintain proposal status and the new business calendars.
- Be extremely comfortable talking about budgets, timelines, technical requirements and assessing the prospective lead.
- Maintain client contact information, including new and existing relationship administration.
- Develop proposal and pitch materials, including case studies, initial POV on prospective clients’ business, strategic presentations, and all written components of a proposal.
- Maintain Fastspot assets including templates, case studies, capabilities, bios and client references.
- Work with cross-disciplinary teams, managing the assembly and delivery of pitches, proposals and RFI responses
- Be a contributor to our blog, social media platforms and the community at large.
- Understand client business goals and strategic imperatives and help the pitch team develop strategic deliverables including written and creative assignments that represent the client’s needs.
- Prioritize on an ongoing basis a variety of projects based on business needs.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Experience in a digital agency environment, ideally in business development, client services, or strategy.
- Experience creating written business development proposals and marketing materials.
- Requires a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or marketing with 3-5 years of experience in the field or a related area.
- Passion for all things digital and design.
