Fastspot Honored with Webby Award Win

05.06.2010

Fastspot is pleased to announce that their work on the Bucknell University Virtual Tour has won a Webby Award in the School/University category in the 14th Annual Webby Awards.

Webby Award winners were chosen by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organization whose members include David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, Virgin Group Chairman Richard Branson, and R/GA Chairman and CEO Bob Greenberg. Website winners were selected based on excellence in content, structure, navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity, and overall experience.

Launched in March 2009, the Bucknell University Virtual Tour is a truly unique exploratory experience. The user is asked to identify various traits about him- or herself while taking the tour, reinforcing the idea that the Bucknell community is a diverse and thoughtful group of individuals and is seeking that kind of diversity in its prospective students. The identity journeys on which visitors embark during the tour can be saved as "sentences" for other users to view and explore.

Fastspot developed the tour in Flash and powered it with a custom content management solution (CMS) to manage images, copy, and video, allowing for endless updates and edits by the Bucknell team.

The Webby Awards is the Internet's most respected symbol of success. With nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide, the competition for the 14th Annual Webby Awards was the biggest in Webby history, which only furthers their reputation as the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.

“I can’t express how proud we all are to be honored with our industry’s most prestigious award,” said Tracey Halvorsen, Principal and Creative Director at Fastspot. “We regard the Webbys as the most competitive and relevant industry awards program for interactive work. To be a finalist, let alone the winner, is the highest compliment.”

Webby Award recipients will be honored at the 14th Annual Webby Gala on June 14, 2010, at Cipriani Wall Street during Internet Week New York. The Gala will be hosted by B.J. Novak of NBC’s The Office.
