Fastspot Launches Website for Notre Dame of Maryland University

10.11.2011

Fastspot is proud to announce the launch of a new Website for Notre Dame of Maryland University, a Catholic, liberal arts university in Baltimore, Maryland.

In designing and building the new Website, Fastspot tackled its core challenge: providing different sets of information to NDM’s diverse audiences, from traditional undergraduates in the Women’s College to adult undergraduate students in the College of Adult Undergraduate Studies, as well as alumni and parents. The site provides clear pathways for these varied audiences to find the information they need quickly and easily.

The site has a contemporary and warm feel that echoes the supportive and welcoming environment experienced by students who attend the University. It promotes Notre Dame’s strongest attributes: the strong academics, the connection to history and tradition, the beautiful 58-acre wooded campus, the diversity of the student body, and the clubs and organizations available on campus. It paints NDM as a place where students of all faiths receive a values- based education, as well as personalized attention and support, enabling them to enhance their leadership skills.

The Website is powered by Fastspot's content management solution, BigTree, which enables NDM’s staff to make content updates while keeping the site’s design consistent and functionality intact. Fastspot also synced NDM’s SQL Server and MySQL databases—so that any changes made to the school’s directory or majors list in the internal database will appear automatically on the live site.

The new site was launched to coincide with the official announcement of the school’s new designation as a university. Founded in 1873 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame as a school for elementary and high school-age girls, in 1895 it became the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, the first Catholic college for women in the country to award the four- year baccalaureate degree. This fall, the school became Notre Dame of Maryland University. It is now composed of four schools: Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Education.

“We took notice of Fastspot as a rising leader in higher education Website design and were very excited to be able to work with them on this project,” says Dan Walker, webmaster at Notre Dame. “They delivered a beautiful and functional Website that will allow our community as a whole to be more involved in the creation and maintenance of our Web presence. Fastspot set out a very clear plan from the beginning, showed us some incredible designs, and really impressed us with the final product.”
