Goucher College Virtual Tour / Education
The newly launched tour seeks to highlight Goucher College's commitment to broadening its students' perspectives throughout the campus, community, and world. Fastspot approached the project by trying to create a more lateral experience versus a more traditional linear tour. By creating relationships between items in the campus, community, and world maps, the tour invites the user to engage with the things they are interested in across all maps by surfacing related content throughout the site.
One of the most significant goals of the project was to create a multipurpose tool for both prospective students and current students. Goucher's unique program requires 100% of its student body to partake in at least one study abroad experience, thus the tour needed to serve as a showcase for students, both prospective and current, to see the varied and interesting opportunities available.
It was also equally important to highlight Goucher's proximity to Baltimore and Washington D.C, dispelling myths of Goucher as an isolated campus. Additionally, highlighting the sprawling campus with large vivid imagery was a major goal.
Goucher attracts students from all over the globe and it was imperative to create an experience that truly reflected the dynamic Goucher campus and its beautiful facilities. As international students increasingly rely on mobile devices for web access, the tour had to be mobile optimized. This not only ensured prospective international students could access the tour, but also ensured that those who couldn't afford a physical visit would feel they had enough of a tour experience to make the decision to attend the school.
The site is powered by Fastspot's BigTree CMS, giving the Goucher team complete control and the ability to easily update photography, information about study abroad programs, and add or remove any item to the map. The tour is also mobile optimized in order to give students on campus an easy-to-access campus directory and map.
The Goucher College Virtual tour was honored with a Webby Nomination in the 2013 Webby Awards in the School / University category.Launch Project
